Donate to highly effective global health and poverty charities
The Effective Altruism New Zealand Charitable Trust (EANZCT) has partnered with three of GiveWell‘s most highly recommended charities: Against Malaria Foundation, Schistosomiasis Control Initiative, and GiveDirectly (cash transfer program or basic income research), so that you can donate to them through EANZCT.
Note that due to NZ charity law we can only divert donations to charities working to improve global health and poverty. Effective Altruists are interested in many other cause areas where we could maximise our positive impact in the world. For information on the other cause areas learn more about effective altruism here.
Currently, the advantage of donating through EANZCT is that there are no transfer fees for you or the charity. You simply transfer the money to EANZCT’s bank account. The international bank transfer fees are paid for by an independent donor. If you donate to the Against Malaria Foundation you will receive a receipt that you can use to get 33 1/3% of your donation back as a tax credit. EANZCT has applied to the IRD to be able to offer tax deductibility to the other charities we partner with, and we expect that to be approved soon, and be available by the start of the financial year April 1st 2018.
There are two steps to donating through the Effective Altruism New Zealand Charitable Trust.
- Complete the form below. This will update our systems, generate a unique code for you to use for the transfer, and give you EANZCT’s bank account number.
- Complete the bank transfer with your bank online, entering the unique code we provide as the reference so that we can match your donation. You will receive a confirmation email within 7 days of your donation being received. If your donation was a once off transfer your receipt will be attached in this email. If your donation is recurring your receipt will be emailed to you at the end of the financial year (March 31st).
Your donation will be forwarded to the charity you selected.
If you have any issues with the donation form just email [email protected] and we can help you donate another way.
