Climate change is a pressing problem facing humanity and ecosystems worldwide. One of the main strategies to combat it used by governments internationally, including New Zealand, is through an Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). The aim of the scheme is to use a carbon credit market to incentivise polluters to reduce their emissions. However, is the scheme fit for purpose?
Mathilde, co-director of a carbon forestry consulting company, has specialised in carbon markets and climate change policy both in the public and private sectors in the UK and NZ. Mathilde obtained two masters from top European universities focusing on how economic and market-based policies can both support and inhibit sustainable development.
Mathilde will present to EA Wellington a summary of carbon forestry and how the ETS works, an overview of the voluntary market, and what her company does.
This session will be held in room KK204 at Kelburn Campus. The room is on floor 2 of Kirk Building. Please be aware the doors to the university stop automatically opening past 6 pm, and to leave the university level 3 is easiest without a pass after this time. While we run events at the university our group is comprised of both students and professionals. Anyone is welcome to join.
