• when you share it directly with us. E.g. when you make a donation, subscribe to our newsletter, fill out a form on our website, or contact us

• when a third party you have authorised to act on your behalf provides us with it. E.g. when an authorised tax agent such as Supergenerous contacts us to request your donation receipts, or when you make a donation through a third-party provider such as Givealittle

• from other publicly available sources, such as the social media profiles you use to interact with us

We may use your personal information to:

• improve your browsing experience by updating and personalising our website

• enable you to make donations to our partner charities, and to send you receipts for any donations you make

• send you general (non-marketing) communications, and/or email notifications which you have specifically requested

• send you marketing and fundraising communications relating to Effective Altruism Aotearoa and our campaigns, which we think may be of interest to you

• respond to your enquiries

We may also use your data anonymously, and in conjunction with other information, to identify others who are likely to engage with our campaigns and thereby help us achieve our charitable mission and objectives.

We will only use your personal information for the purposes specified, either in this privacy policy or in relevant parts of the website.

Yes— much of the information we collect is optional. For example, you can disable cookies to prevent the collection of web analytics data, and simply choose not to share your name or contact details with us.

However, there are services we will be unable to provide if you do not share certain information. For example, without your name and contact details, we will be unable to provide a tax receipt for your donation.

In general, access to your personal data is restricted to the EA NZ personnel who need that information to run and improve our campaigns. We will not share your data with anyone else, except:

• when necessary to process financial transactions (E.g. to verify debit cards)

• where required by law to assist in the course of a police investigation or other legal action

• when you have given us explicit permission, such as agreeing to share your details with one of our partner charities

In addition, we may occasionally share anonymised data, such as donation totals, with third parties. This anonymised data contains no personally identifiable information.

We will never sell, trade or exchange your information without your permission.

The website contains links to other websites. However, we are not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of third-party websites.
