Lots of people say that it is important for them to “do good” or “make a difference” in their job. However, they often don’t say what they mean by this, or try to directly compare possible career paths based on this metric. Yet, we can’t do everything, so we all have to decide how to spend our ~80,000-hour career somehow. Should we be a teacher? A doctor? A policymaker? A politician? A researcher?

This seminar, run by Effective Altruism Wellington, will outline some approaches to answering this question, by drawing on years of research by two organisations that work in high-impact career advising: 80,000 Hours and Probably Good.

This session will be held in room SU217 at Kelburn Campus. While we run events at the university our group is comprised of both students and professionals. Anyone is welcome to join. Please be aware the doors to the university stop automatically opening past 6 pm.
