Land Economics & Georgism

  • Room KK204, Victoria University Kelburn Parade Wellington (map)

🗓️  5:30 PM, Tuesday August 6th
📍  KK204, Victoria University Kelburn Campus

This week Max will talk about the often ignored economics of land ownership, and the once-popular economic theory Georgism.

Land use is fundamental to any economy, but the way it is regulated today in most countries is surprisingly bad for the collective good. Changing that may or may not be politically feasible, but spreading and considering these (old!) ideas is a start. Among other things, we’ll discuss land speculation, local economic growth and land values, effective taxation and universal basic income. Afterwards we’ll head down to the Arborist to talk more and catch up.

While we run events at the university our group is comprised of both students and professionals. Anyone is welcome to join— we hope to see you there!
