Mercy For Animals is hiring a Food Systems Data & Intelligence Analyst for a six-month contract, with potential renewal or growth. This role is part of the Data & Analytics Team and will help us map corporate influence, identify major targets, and level up our intelligence on the global food system.

This is a high-autonomy, high-impact role, mixing data wrangling, corporate research, and strategic insight. You’ll work with leaders, strategists, engineers, analysts, and campaigners to structure complex data, explore how corporate power works, and generate intelligence that potentially moves the needle for millions of farmed animals.

We’re looking for someone super smart, sharp with data, and ready to get in on the action. If you’re a curious, independent problem-solver who can balance deep work with fast execution, we want to hear from you.

What Helps - Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, or equivalent experience, in an analytical field such as statistics, data science, applied mathematics, economics, computer science or a related discipline. Degrees or experience in business, finance or related disciplines, will also be seriously considered

  • 2+ years of experience in data analysis, strategy, research, or a related role

  • Experience in the animal protection movement, especially research or corporate campaigns, is a plus

  • Experience with cross-cultural or international work is a major plus, especially in emerging markets

  • Familiarity with analytical models from Effective Altruism is a plus

Your Craft - Technical Skills

  • Data analysis – strong end-to-end analytical skills from asking the right questions to determining appropriate methodologies to solid presentations, to technical skills across a spectrum of tools, from Google Sheets to visualization tools such as Tableau to statistical tools or programming, and perhaps even database or software development skills

  • Economic analysis – general familiarity with competitive market analysis, or other business or economic analysis is a major plus

  • Technologies – Google Sheets (advanced formulas such as array formulas); DOMO (data visualization and dashboards); Python or R for data analysis; Salesforce (admin or development); SQL (especially for data warehousing). Skills in similar tools will be seriously considered.

  • Data structures –basic familiarity with relational database concepts or tools

  • Related tools – familiarity Salesforce administration or development, DOMO is a plus

What You’ll Do - Responsibilities

  • Deliver impact by providing high quality, relevant, timely analysis that helps drive campaigns and strategy to achieve clear impact on animals

  • Spot gaps and solve problems – Identify the most significant gaps in our intelligence and fill them

  • Identify meaningful trends and patterns – Explore and summarize data to frame and answer important questions

  • Engage leaders, strategists and campaigners in making more data-informed decisions through understanding needs and perspectives, and helping us ask the right analytical questions

  • Communicate insights effectively – Reports, visualizations, presentations, office hours, whatever gets the message across

  • Compile a database of corporations through integrating with existing sources, and hands-on competitive market research

  • Collaborate and communicate with leaders, activists, analysts and partners worldwide to synthesize data and information from the best available sources, playing a role in our coalition that earns a positive reputation based on stakeholder feedback

  • Explore innovative and collaborative solutions, such as AI deep research and data integration through automation and coalition partnerships

  • Other activities as instructed by the Director of Data and Analytics or data users
