FirstCape is expanding its philanthropic and impact advisory services team and is seeking a dynamic and skilled for-purpose leader and client lead to join its Auckland office.
The Philanthropic Services team purpose is to inspire, educate and support clients and collaborators in delivering lasting, positive change. Its goal is a more informed and better-connected community of purpose-driven agents; inspired and committed to creating lasting positive change; through effective and ethical leadership.
Reporting to the Head of Philanthropic Services, the Director, Philanthropic Services role is to extend FirstCape's capability in philanthropic impact services by establishing, managing and delivering services and products to for-purpose clients, supporting the ongoing development of the Philanthropic Services strategy.
Key Responsibilities | Ngā Kawenga Mahi
Business development
Work with Head of Philanthropic Services to execute the Philanthropic Service strategy and marketing plan.
Utilise own and the firm’s networks to increase profile and positioning of the Wealth brand(s), introduce our services, and support positive impact in the sector.
In addition, work with advisers to identify and engage their for-purpose prospects, including assisting the preparation of proposals and participating in pitches.
Represent and promote Philanthropic Services and Investment Management Services at industry and client events. Represent Philanthropic Services in public as required.
Assist the Head of Philanthropic Services to broker useful connections, synergies, peer learning and collaborations with others. As appropriate leveraging FirstCape resources to provider broader data led insights about the NZ for-purpose sector, as part of our commitment to the sector.
For-purpose advisory & consulting
Provide tailored strategic advice to clients.
Lead a portfolio of client consultations (facilitation and teaching), support ad hoc engagements for our high value clients, driving the development of appropriate assessments and advisory engagements, overseeing data collection and strategic analysis processes, and presenting results to clients.
Provide governance advice to clients (particularly governance for impact).
Thought leadership and research
Assisting in the preparation of thought leadership materials.
Gather philanthropic and community sector trends and insights that contribute to institutional knowledge.
Lead, in conjunction with our external knowledge partners, sector wide research projects and support report writing to provide data-driven insights for the for-purpose leaders in Aotearoa New Zealand, and to contribute more widely to the public knowledge and profiling of the work of the charity and philanthropic sectors, including tangata whenua and community investment by businesses.
Together with ISG support NZ impact investment strategies.
Firm capability building and collaboration
Foster high performance and individual development in advising on philanthropy and ethical / impact investing amongst JBWere and Jarden investment advisors through coaching, and collaboration, and by promoting a positive environment within the offices.
Collaborating with JBWere Philanthropic Services team members in Australia to optimise the trans-Tasman opportunities for Aotearoa New Zealand for-purpose clients.
Assisting in the preparation and delivery of exclusive leadership events.
Working with FirstCape Group on broader corporate for-purpose initiatives.
Managing risk
Role model professional and ethical behaviour by ensuring:
Compliance with risk and compliance policies and procedures
Any changes to risk processes and policies are implemented
Compliance with external legislation, Wealth standards and internal operating policies and procedures.
What you will bring to the role | He aha ka kawea e koe ki te mahi
We require that you:
Have experience in managing client relationships with a responsibility for deliverables, and a proven track record in building trust, and confidence.
Are comfortable interacting with directors, trustees, and high-level senior executives in high-stakes settings (public speaking experience desirable).
Are detail-oriented and organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, in an environment that requires flexibility and a willingness to do what is required
Have a genuine passion for, and comprehensive knowledge of, the for-purpose sector
Have solid philanthropy and community sector knowledge and understanding.
Have an understanding of governance for climate and environmental changes.
Have an appreciation of Tikanga Māori and Te Reo Māori.
Tertiary qualification. Preferably in a business discipline like commerce, law or finance.
Preferred, minimum ten years of experience in a field, approaches, or subject matter relevant to the Philanthropic Services context and mission
