INHR has a growing AI team with a range of expertise. As our first hire dedicated exclusively to researching the existential risks associated with AI and nuclear weapons, you would take an active role in all aspects of the program’s success. This will likely include a combination of policy research, implementation, managing grant funds, and communicating with participants of our dialogue.
We are looking for a candidate with experience and skills that cut across international cooperation, technology and national security policy, and technical knowledge of AI governance or nuclear fields. You may be a good candidate for the role if you have:
2-5 years of full-time experience in...
Government or private organisations with a focus on AI or nuclear issues;
Technical role related to AI governance or nuclear issues; and/or
Research or policy role related to technical aspects of AI or nuclear policy.
A master’s degree related to artificial intelligence, strategic stability or nuclear issues can substitute for two years work experience.
Deep familiarity with issues related to AI safety and/or nuclear weapons.
Exceptional English writing and research skills with ability to produce publication-quality work.
Understanding of the process of producing policy-oriented research and the ability to develop, adapt, and execute a research agenda in collaboration with a team.
Comfort engaging with senior policymakers, military officials, and technical experts.
Willingness to travel to our dialogues (including in China, Europe and the United States).
High levels of organization, self-motivation, and openness to collaboration.
English fluency
Especially strong applicants for the role may have:
Previously published research in the following areas:
Technical AI safety
AI governance and policy
Nuclear weapons safety and non-proliferation
International relations
Russian or Chinese language skills.
Experience working in Russia or China.
Experience working in government or communicating complex technical ideas to policymakers.
Experience in international program implementation.
Knowledge of international governance frameworks and institutions (UN system, arms control treaties, etc.)
Understanding of military AI applications and dual-use technology concerns.
