Fish Welfare Initiative is hiring an Operations Associate to execute and maintain FWI’s day-to-day operational systems, including finance, admin, and hiring processes. If you have a strong attention to detail, enjoy keeping systems running smoothly, and want your work to directly enable high-impact animal welfare work, this role could be a great fit.

The Operations team ensures that our programs, people, and finances are supported by reliable processes and clear internal structures. As Operations Associate, you’ll take ownership of day-to-day operational systems, while supporting the Operations Manager on others. Your core focus areas will include finance, admin, documentation, and recruitment and hiring processes, with opportunities to take on ownership of additional operational systems and projects as you grow in the role.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll support the smooth running of FWI’s operations through the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain and execute day-to-day operational systems (finance, admin, and documentation)

  • Support hiring processes, including recruitment support, and early-stage screening

  • Keep trackers, files, and internal documentation accurate and up to date

  • Assist with process improvements and take on additional operational projects over time

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has the following skills:

  • Extremely strong attention to detail.

  • A systems-optimization mindset (for instance, as described in this podcast).

  • Ability to manage a large workload and multiple complex, high-level projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to react coolly in stressful situations.

  • Ability to write clearly and concisely, and without mistakes.

We prefer candidates who have the following experience/attributes, although they are not strictly required:

  • Prior experience with operations work (nonprofit, startups, admin/ops, finance ops, HR ops, etc.).

  • Familiarity with operating in India.

Sometimes, we find that the best candidates are the ones who hesitate before applying. If that’s you—and you’re unsure whether you should apply—we still encourage you to apply. We value skills more than prior experience. In fact, some members of our current Operations team started at FWI with minimal formal operations experience and learned quickly on the job.

The Fine Print

  • Location: Remote in a time-zone compatible with IST (so anywhere but the Americas).

  • Position Status: Full-time, permanent.

  • Start Date: ASAP, with some flexibility.

  • Pay: INR 70,000 to INR 100,000 per month depending on experience (with location adjustments for non-India hires as relevant).

  • Benefits: Flexible hours, generous paid time off, maternal & paternal leave, health insurance provided for Indian nationals, possibly others depending on jurisdiction of employment.

Equal Opportunity Policy

FWI is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We encourage people of every color, orientation, age, sex, gender, ethnicity, and ability to apply. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding accessibility, and we will endeavor to make adjustments throughout the process where possible.

How to Apply

Complete our application form (which includes a 1-hour mini test task). Candidates will need to be signed in with a Google account in order to apply.
