The Centre for Long-Term Resilience, a leading think tank transforming global resilience to extreme risk, is seeking an efficient, confident and experienced editor to work with us on a contractor basis.
The role involves editing, proofreading and formatting policy reports, website articles and briefings, online and print publications, liaising with authors and operational staff about scheduling, sequencing and expectations, all whilst maintaining clear communication and providing high-quality and reliable turnarounds when needed.
Key Responsibilities and Skills
Exceptional and rapid copy-editing and proofreading services in support of a full range of CLTR policy and research publications and briefings, from 1-pager policy recommendations to 80+ page reports (see examples of our work here).
Applying CLTRโs style and format guides to all written work for online and printed publications.
Editing complex figures and tables and helping embed prepared linked multimedia content, such as embedded video.
Writing headlines, subheadings, and figure and table captions.
Liaising with authors to question and clarify structure and content, and ensure completeness and consistency of written work, such as adequate referencing.
Liaising with Unit Directors, authors and operational teams on communicating and adjusting timelines.
Synthesising dense technical information into clear, concise content that is suitable for technical and generalist audiences, and which builds trust without oversimplifying the challenges.
Additional surge support as required with uploading publications to the CLTR website.
What weโre looking for
An ideal contractor would have:
Demonstrable experience in science communications, technical, policy and/or writing and editing.
Experience using Zotero or other citation software, as well as AP and Chicago style guides.
Familiarity with our priority areas (biosecurity, artificial intelligence and management of extreme risks) is a plus.
Ability to manage multiple writing projects simultaneously with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work within a team environment, sharing editing tasks with colleagues where necessary, and to be self-directed, managing own daily and weekly or fortnightly deadlines.
Experienced in using Google Workspace, Canva, WordPress and Asana.
