Arcadia Impact is hiring up to 4 Research Team Leaders this year to lead small teams of participants of our AI Governance Taskforce. This role holds significant responsibility for delivery of core program outputs, actively driving our research and dissemination value streams.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
Leading 1-2 research teams of our Taskforce participants to produce research outputs and dissemination publications.
Develop research questions in consultation with our external experts.
Lead, manage and drive all research and publication activities, allocating workstreams to our participants and managing delivery in a structured manner.
Lead, shape and edit outputs, coaching your team towards quality and rigorous developments. Actively participate in substantive research as needed.
Opportunity to help shape the future impact of the Taskforce by providing feedback to the Taskforce Lead on research direction and collaboration plans, research communication efforts, and initiatives towards maximising career value participants obtain from the Taskforce.
Person Specification
We are looking for highly motivated candidates who are mission-driven to contribute to ethically stewarding the transition to a world with advanced AI by reducing risks. We expect promising candidates will have many of the following:
Essential
A broad foundational understanding of AI governance and safety; AND:
At least one area of AI governance of particular familiarity and strong understanding (typically have published written work in this area in some form); OR:
A demonstrable core competency from another field/discipline that is transferable to AI governance.
Experience leading and managing a small team.
Experience or demonstrable ability to manage a project in a structured manner.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong writing ability.
Desirable
Significant expertise in an area of AI governance.
Record of research publication or policy writing (Arxiv, academic, policymaker audience, general audience are all of interest).
Big-picture situational awareness of the AI governance landscape and strategically relevant influences.
An existing network within AI governance and policy fields.
Significant people, project and research/policy management, leadership and coaching/mentoring experience.
Application Process
The application process consists of submission of CV, writing sample(s) and brief answers to competency questions in the first round. Selected candidates will be invited to a remote interview as the final round. We aim to conduct interviews shortly after the application deadline, and extend offers by early August.
