The Future Society (TFS) is seeking a driven and experienced professional to help advance our global AI governance activities. Specifically, we are looking for a Senior Associate with 6+ years of relevant experience for developing, advocating for, and/or implementing international AI policy and governance mechanisms. These include laws and regulations, voluntary frameworks, standards, or industry practices.
In this dynamic role, you will monitor and assess the global AI governance landscape, design and lead high-impact AI policy recommendations, and engage a diverse network of stakeholders to champion these initiatives. Your expertise will be pivotal in furthering TFS’s mission to align artificial intelligence through better governance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead policy engagements with key actors in the global AI governance landscape by developing and advocating for TFS’s policy recommendations, preparing and disseminating policy memos and outputs, and cultivating strong relationships with policymakers, civil society groups, and other relevant stakeholders.
Manage staff at the Associate or Analyst levels and be expected to treat people management as an essential area for skills development
Convene and manage communities of relevant stakeholders by organizing and participating in workshops, working groups, joint reports, events, and conferences (including managing contacts and invitations, content, and publications).
Work with TFS leadership to map and build partnerships with relevant stakeholders with shared policy positions.
Engage with and represent TFS at AI policy forums and workshops with multi-stakeholder AI technical and policy experts.
Support organizational needs as required including fundraising, grant proposal writing, impact planning and assessments, and strategic communications.
Participate in team-wide strategy discussions, including during international off-site retreats.
Preferred Qualifications:
Skills:
6+ years of relevant full-time work experience, at least 2 years of which are in AI policy or governance, e.g., in government, research institutes, law firms, consulting, AI labs, and multilateral and/or civil society organizations.
Experience with project management, supervising colleagues, and collaborating with external partners and stakeholders.
Strong policy research and analysis skills, demonstrated by experiences such as tracking and drafting policy memos, and providing legislative or government feedback.
Strong interpersonal communication skills to collaborate and represent TFS with high-level international stakeholders, including leading or participating in workshops, conferences, and presentations.
Experience or interest in coordinating and convening diverse stakeholders towards community building, including event organization.
Flexibility and able to take on a variety of tasks, as required for organizational priorities.
Experience conducting impact planning and assessments is a bonus but not required.
Full professional working proficiency in English including excellent written communication.
Knowledge:
Undergraduate or, preferably, master’s or doctoral degree(s) in public policy, economics, technology policy, law, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
Strong understanding of approaches to multilateralism and the AI governance landscape, regulatory initiatives and processes, technology trends, and key stakeholders (e.g., international organizations, companies, nonprofits, academia, and policymakers).
Basic technical understanding of AI including general-purpose AI systems with emergent capabilities.
Teamwork:
Strong interest in The Future Society’s mission statement: aligning AI through better governance.
Established network and credibility in the AI landscape, with demonstrated understanding of how to engage with regulators, civil society, and other stakeholders, including underrepresented groups.
Self-motivated and proactive, ready to help deliver our impact and shape our growth.
Ability to work and lead workstreams independently; detail-oriented, organized, collaborative, and diligent.
Great team spirit, collaborative attitude and communication skills, and integrity and professional ethics.
Interest and ability to travel nationally and internationally frequently, and work across international and diverse teammates and stakeholders.
Compensation: For U.S.-based candidates, $104,600-$113,800 depending on location. For candidates based outside the U.S., $94,200. Please note that TFS uses a formulaic salary structure and does not negotiate compensation on an individual basis.
Benefits: For a U.S.-based hire, benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance as well as a 403(b) retirement plan with an employer match at three percent of salary, 30 days of annual leave (including floating public holidays), and 10 days of sick leave each year. For non-U.S. employees, we match the U.S. standard as closely as possible or use local mandatory levels, whichever is highest.
