We are looking for experienced Senior Policy Advisors to join the Adaptation Business Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a priority area of policy looking at the problem of how New Zealand will adapt to a changing climate. You will be joining a collaborative, supportive and high performing team.  This is an opportunity for you to play a key role to influence positive change to strengthen the resilience of communities, businesses and places to climate change and natural hazards.

Key areas of responsibility include: 

  • Preparing policy and advice on design elements of the adaptation framework, including economic analysis, regulatory impact analysis and Treaty impact analysis. 

  • Supporting the establishment of legislative, institutional, or monitoring elements of the adaptation framework and supporting hazard risk data system.

  • Working across government to connect the adaptation framework with related legislative systems, including resource management, Local Government Act, Public Works Act, Civil Defence and Emergency Management Act, Te Ture Whenua Māori Act.

For each role we are looking for one or more of the following skillsets:

  • Expertise in economic analysis for public policy, including experience in business case development and/or financial markets.

  • Expertise and experience in policy development of Māori land issues.

  • Experience in adaptation or natural hazards planning for local government.

And:

  • Strong background in providing policy advice.

  • Highly skilled in writing advice for a variety of audiences, with the ability to translate analysis into outputs which are easily interpreted by a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Has a solid understanding of machinery of government, strong written and oral communication skills.  

  • Ability to liaise across work programmes and agencies to ensure appropriate advice and information is provided to decision makers.  

  • Ability to manage a varied workload with competing priorities.    

  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, developing your cultural capability and capacity in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te ao Māori perspectives
