Social Media & Digital Communications Officer

We are seeking a Social Media & Digital Communications Officer to help drive our mission forward by managing and growing the digital presence of the local advocates we work with. This person will manage multiple social media accounts from different Asian countries focused on holding companies accountable to animal welfare commitments in Asia, while also supporting broader digital communications.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and create written and visual content for communications channels including social media, newsletters, website, advocacy resources, and media engagement.
Coordinate content and scheduling of communications with leaders of country initiatives
Monitor relevant news to identify opportunities for timely, impactful content and share key updates with the wider team.
Maintain and update websites and other digital platforms with fresh, accurate content.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of digital communications activities across social media, newsletters, and websites.
Develop and implement strategies to grow engagement among target audiences.
Manage relationships with external service providers (designers, contractors, volunteers etc.).
Keep a calendar of AAI’s communications activities up to date.
Support planning, formatting, and sending of our quarterly digital newsletter.
Contribute as a collaborative team member, taking on additional tasks as needed.
Must-Have Qualifications
Digital communications experience: Skilled in creating content for digital channels, including social media.
Excellent written communication: Ability to craft compelling, accurate, and error-free English-language content tailored to diverse audiences.
Good judgment and news sense: Strong ability to spot opportunities and ensure message tone and substance are right.
Storytelling skills: Able to translate complex narratives into accessible, engaging communications adapted across varied Asian contexts.
Strong people skills: High emotional intelligence and ability to collaborate across cultures and teams.
Organisational ability: Skilled at prioritising and managing multiple tasks with reliability and attention to detail.
Initiative and adaptability: Comfortable in a fast-changing environment, with openness to learning and improving.
Eye for design and user experience: Ability to recognise and guide engaging visual content.
Tech savviness: Comfort using a variety of digital tools; willingness to learn new systems. Training provided in Microsoft 365, Asana, Hubspot, Mailerlite, and others.
Remote working skills: Self-motivated, reliable, and comfortable working independently in a remote setting.
English fluency: Confident in both written and spoken English.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Fluency in additional Asian languages.
Knowledge of the communications landscape in at least one Asian country.
Experience managing social media channels.
Familiarity with website maintenance, SEO, and Google Analytics.
Skills in design and workflow management tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite, Gimp, Asana, Notion, AI tools).
Location, Compensation & Right-to-Work
Being based in Asia is not required. This is a fully remote position, and we welcome applicants from anywhere.
Salary will be determined based on the candidate’s location, experience, and comparable NGO pay scales, while remaining within the budget range we’ve set for this role.
Our budget for this position is aligned with typical compensation levels for Asia-based NGOs. Applicants outside Asia are very welcome, provided they are comfortable with a salary within this general range.
Candidates must already have the legal right to work in the country where they are based.
To ensure collaboration with our Asia-based team, candidates are expected to work at least four hours per weekday overlapping with UTC+8 (Singapore time), between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. local time.
