Strategy Fellow

Forecasting Research Institute

📍Remote (Global) 🕔 Part or Full Time
💰$80-$130,000 USD/hr 🔄 Rolling Applications

We are hiring for Strategy Fellows who would work closely with senior leadership at FRI to push ahead work on high-priority organizational goals. This would involve doing a mix of strategic, research, and project management-oriented work.

Example tasks could include:

  • Writing blog posts to contextualize our key findings, describing their relationship to other research findings and their implications for policy choices. For example, this could involve taking a result from our Longitudinal Expert AI Panel (LEAP) and writing a post about how it fits into the current AI policy discussion.

  • Mapping the key policymakers, journalists, and other actors in a space (e.g., AI-biorisk, nuclear risk) to understand where and how our research results can be useful to decision makers.

  • Conducting interviews with key actors we’re aiming to influence with our research to understand how our results are being used and how we can alter our approach to create more useful outputs.

  • Identifying funding opportunities relevant to our work and helping to draft fundraising applications.

  • Helping the senior leadership team with developing and tracking organizational goals.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate would have the following characteristics:

  • Passionate about FRI’s mission

  • Interested in a combination of organizational strategy, research, and fundraising

  • Clear, explicit communicator who proactively checks in and drives work ahead independently where appropriate

  • Strong writing skills

  • Collaborative and friendly teammate

We believe that people with a wide range of experience levels could be a great fit for this role. We are open to talented generalists who are relatively early in their careers for this position.

We highly encourage you to apply, even if you don't feel completely qualified. Some of the best people we’ve worked with in our careers felt underqualified when they first applied, and we’re glad they did so anyway.

Role Details

  • We prefer full-time but are open to exceptional candidates who want to work at least 20 hours per week.

  • This role is entirely remote, though would ideally involve travel 3-5 times per year to meet with other members of the team. Applicants must consistently be available between our core team meeting hours of 11am and 3pm ET.

  • Compensation for this role will vary depending on experience, but we expect it to be between $80,000-$130,000.

  • We provide 80% contribution towards fully funded health insurance for staff, 30 days per year of paid time off (including holidays), and up to 10 days of paid sick leave, among other benefits.

Application Process

We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis and will take down this job posting when the role is filled. The application process will vary by candidate but for successful candidates will typically involve:

  • An initial application, including a 1-hour work test

  • A paid 5-10 hour writing-oriented work trial

  • Three to four virtual interviews with members of our team

Forecasting Research Institute

We develop forecasting methods to improve decision-making on high-stakes issues. First-generation forecasting research—spearheaded by FRI Chief Scientist Philip Tetlock and coauthors—focused on establishing a rigorous standard for prediction accuracy. The next generation of work aims to channel this approach into real-world relevance. We work with policymakers and nonprofit organizations to design practical forecasting tools, and test them in large experiments.
