Are you passionate about designing environmental data and digital experiences that take a user-first design? We're looking for a skilled and experienced User Experience / User Interface (UX/UI) Design Lead to lead the UX/UI function of digital enablement and technology reform initiatives within the Resource Management and Climate Adaptation systems. This is a fixed term role to 30 June 2026.

This role is central to ensuring the digital foundations of these systems and new digital and data products, take a user-centric design. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team driving transformation across the Ministry's digital platforms, with a strong focus on accessibility, equity, and user-centred design.

Working within the System Design and Innovation team in the Data and Insights Products Unit, you'll support delivery teams to ensure digital enablement and technology reforms deliver integrated and effective systems, solutions and products to the digital users in each system. Your leadership will help shape a more connected, efficient, and user-focused digital planning system and helps users engage with complex data and decision-making processes.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience   

  • 5+ years as a UX designer for a suite of consumer facing Software as a Service (SaaS) products, related online software products or digital products.

  • Significant experience in advocating for the user with research and data analysis, ideally through developing user stories, personas, and A/B / UAT testing.

  • Demonstrable experience in using data to make design decisions, including analytics, user research, survey feedback or user testing.

  • A portfolio of functional (as well as visually pleasing) user journeys/ digital interfaces which translates concepts into user flows, wireframes, prototypes, UI and UX designs that lead to intuitive user experiences.
