Effective Altruism Christchurch Universities (EACU) are thrilled to announce their first event for the semester: they are partnering with the University of Canterbury Computer Society (CompSoc) to put on an AI Safety Hackathon on Saturday August 15 from 10am-4pm NZST. This is going to be in-person on the University of Canterbury main campus in the Jack Erskine 133 computer lab.

This is a great chance to get some exposure to the increasingly important field of AI safety, as well as get some hands-on experience with reinforcement learning and neural networks. Please read the posters below for more information on the event. There will also be free pizza for lunch!

No AI experience is required, just some knowledge of Python programming!

Also, the founder of the Technical Alignment Research Accelerator (TARA) and AI safety professional, Ruben Castaing, will be at the event and is more than willing to have a chat about his work, as well as offering guidance on how to enter the field.
