Campaigning For Higher Import Welfare Standards

  • MZ02 Pipitea Campus Victoria University Wellington (map)

Countries with higher levels of animal welfare legislation, like New Zealand, are still importing significant amounts of animal products that are produced using methods that would be illegal locally. This fuels suffering overseas, undermines Kiwis’ support for higher animal welfare standards, and puts local Kiwi farmers at a disadvantage.

Animal Policy International (API) is an organisation launched through the Charity Entrepreneurship Incubation Program that is advocating for responsible imports that are in line with domestic laws. By applying equal standards, they aim to advance animal welfare in exporting countries with lower levels of animal welfare.

New Zealand is the first country of operation for API and both co-founders Mandy and Rainer are currently here on their visit. They are excited to meet local EA community and chat about animal welfare. They will give a short presentation about API’s strategy and plans, followed by Q&A and discussion. They will also give an overview of the Charity Entrepreneurship’s incubation program and are open to answer any questions related to this.

This session will be held in MZ02 at Pipitea Campus. While we run events at the university our group is comprised of both students and professionals. Anyone is welcome to join. Please be aware the doors to the university stop automatically opening past 6 pm.
