Conference Organiser
EAGxAustralasia
📍 Remote (NZ) ⏳ 12/05/2025
💰 $40-45 AUD/hr 🕔 Part Time
We have a great opportunity for part-time contract work contributing to the organising of the EAGxAustralasia conference in 2025.
About the Role
You will be part of a remote team with members across Australia and New Zealand.
Roles have variable weekly hours, from 5 hrs/week in early phases and potentially up to 30 hrs/week closer to the conference. Total hours per role will vary, typically between 150–200 hrs, but we are open to more flexible arrangements depending on your availability and strengths. You will need to be available in Melbourne the days leading up to the conference (travel is covered).
You will be working with Tom Hutton as Team Lead, and the Community Manager at Effective Altruism Australia (Bridget Loughhead). They are responsible for managing the overall team and preparatory work across all areas of responsibility.
You will be engaged as a contractor—submitting hours worked monthly as invoices to EAA and being paid monthly.
Compensation: $40–45AUD/hr, depending on experience and responsibilities.
Perks of the role include:
Contributing meaningfully to the growth of the Australian and New Zealand EA communities.
Building a strong network of EA community members, past EAGx organisers, and international speakers.
Gaining valuable, legible professional experience in a collaborative and purpose-driven team.
We are hiring for 3–4 Conference Organiser roles to contribute across the following areas::
Communications: Marketing, event promotion, and attendee communications via email and Swapcard.
Production: Venue, catering, audiovisual, and event logistics. Making everything happen smoothly on the day.
Content: Curating incredible sessions. Speaker outreach and liaison, and conference programming.
About You
You might be a great fit if:
You are familiar with effective altruism and enthusiastic about the local EA community.
You are organised, conscientious, and a clear communicator who cares about getting the details right.
You are capable of self-management to get the job done—especially important in remote teams.
You may have relevant experience in running events (particularly EA-related), but this is not essential.
Each role suits different strengths:
Communications: Strong design, copywriting, and social media skills.
Production: Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and comfort under pressure.
Content: Friendly and professional with speakers; familiar with EA orgs and ideas.
