Are you looking to work on policy which has a tangible difference? Then this is the team for you! We are looking for an experienced Senior Policy Advisor to join the Waste Sectors Policy team to work on synthetic refrigerants policy.

Our team is developing and implementing a regulated product stewardship scheme and undertaking policy development on wider system levers.  This is a complex and interesting policy area. Refrigerants are essential for heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR). They enable the ‘cold chain' for transporting and storing perishable food and medicines and are critical to the domestic and export economy.

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are a subset of refrigerants which have a very high global warming potential. They contribute significantly to global warming despite being emitted in relatively low quantities.

The Waste Sector Policy team is also responsible for:

  • Delivering this Government's priorities and implementing the waste actions outlined in the second Emissions Reduction Plan

  • Developing policy to reduce construction and demolition waste going to landfills.

Our team:

  • Provides high quality policy advice and analysis to Ministers

  • Leads the development of robust evidence based regulatory and non-regulatory policy solutions

  • Works closely with key Waste Sector stakeholders

  • Works across the wider Ministry and aligning our work with the wider waste management system and sector

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

We are seeking an experienced senior policy advisor with:

  • demonstrated experience of developing end to end complex policy within the public sector.

  •  experience using a range of analytical frameworks, including developing new frameworks.
