Podcast Producer

Good Impressions

📍Remote (Global) 💼 Contractor
⌛ 24/11/2024 💰 $35-60 /hour

We’re looking for someone to create one or two podcasts that highlight people doing inspiring work to improve the world. This could take many forms, and the person hired for this role would be responsible for deciding on an approach and taking it from an idea to a reality. This will include:

  • Deciding on a concept and format

  • Choosing a name

  • Hiring as needed (e.g. hosts, researchers, editors)

  • Planning the episodes

  • Sorting out recording logistics

  • Managing the editing process

  • Distributing and promoting the podcast

  • Monitoring and improving the podcast over time

Part of the role will be to come up with a concept, but here are a few ideas to give you a sense of what’s possible:

  • An Effective Altruism-branded show that hosts engaging discussions with individuals who have done innovative and impressive things to make the world better. Think of the 80,000 Hours podcast, but with a focus on people over theory, a more accessible and celebratory tone, topics and formats that appeal to a wide audience, free-flowing conversations instead of interviews, multiple hosts, shorter episode lengths, and shot to include video.

  • A narrative-based podcast that tells the stories of people who have done remarkable things to improve the world, similar in style to This American Life. Each episode or series could focus on a single person's story, delving into their motivations, challenges, and successes.

  • An Effective Altruism-branded show with multiple hosts who discuss Effective Altruism news and updates in a casual, entertaining, and accessible manner.

Requirements for the role include:

  • Strong familiarity with the Effective Altruism community, its projects, and its personalities

  • Proven track record of successfully launching and managing projects

  • Ability to self-teach

  • Familiarity with podcasts

  • Strong imagination

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work autonomously

Strong candidates may also have experience with some of the following:

  • Event planning or other jobs that involve managing contractors and budgets

  • Entertainment production of any kind

  • Storytelling or other creative disciplines

Reasons to work at Good Impressions

  • Work with a great team:

    • "I honestly cannot imagine working in a more positive culture"

    • “I'm always very grateful to work so closely with such a great mentor and recommend all my jobseeking friends to find something where they can have this dynamic :) ”

    • “Lovely work environment (checks all of 80k's boxes for me), and clients really like us!”

  • Impact:

    • There are many incredible and untold stories about people making an outsized impact in the world. By turning those stories into content that people want to listen to, we can inspire others to work on the world’s biggest and most neglected problems.

  • High autonomy:

    • This project could take many forms, and the person hired for this role would be responsible for deciding on an approach and taking it from idea to reality.

  • Opportunity for growth:

    • If you excel in the role, there will likely be other creative projects that require an owner.

  • Work life balance:

    • We set our own deadlines and take mental health and burnout seriously.
