About Coefficient Giving

Coefficient Giving is a philanthropic funder and advisor. Since 2014, we’ve directed over $4 billion in grants as part of our mission to help others as much as we can with the resources available to us. We work with a range of donors who share our commitment to cost-effective, high-impact giving. Our current funds include Science and Global Health R&D, Navigating Transformative Artificial Intelligence, Abundance & Growth, Farm Animal Welfare, Biosecurity & Pandemic Preparedness, and more. In 2024, we recommended $650 million to high-impact causes.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Editor to help us share our work with the world through clear, compelling content across our website, blog, newsletter, social media, and more. We’re looking for someone who combines strong editorial judgment with excellent writing and editing skills — someone who can translate complex topics for mainstream audiences while maintaining our commitment to rigor and reasoning transparency. The deadline to apply for the role is January 17, 2026.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Shaping content and communications strategy. You’ll help develop our broader approach to content publication, social media, and external communications. This could include leading initiatives and developing new formats to reach different audiences (e.g. newsletter products, podcasts, explainer videos).

  • Editing, shaping, and polishing content across formats. You'll work with program teams and leadership to translate complex topics — like AI safety, global health, scientific research, and biosecurity — for curious non-expert audiences. This includes providing both developmental and line-level feedback on grantee spotlights, annual reviews, high-visibility articles, essays, and talks, and other formats — with particular attention to structure, tone, and sensitive content.

  • Working with Naina and other senior staff on high-priority messaging challenges and providing feedback on cross-organizational communications (e.g. donor-facing updates, FAQs, and sensitive statements).

  • Maintaining editorial standards and team workflows. You'll collaborate with our small but growing team to improve our style guidance, processes, and cross-team coordination. For candidates with relevant experience, this could include managing other communications staff.

  • Supporting other communications initiatives as needed, such as website updates, media relations, social media content, improving internal communications, evaluating PR risks, or other work to support our grantmaking.

Who might be a good fit

We're looking for someone with at least 7 years of professional experience in writing, editing, journalism, or digital communications. You should have strong judgment, excellent strategic thinking, and meticulous line-editing skills. Design, video, or data visualization skills are a bonus but not required.

You might be a great fit for this work if you:

  • Have strong writing and editing skills. You can absorb complex information quickly and reframe it clearly for different audiences. You have strong editorial judgment and can spot when something needs work, whether it's the tone of a social media post or a claim that needs better sourcing.

  • Can adapt to Coefficient Giving's voice. While we want to make a positive case for our work, we care much more about rigor and accuracy than making ourselves "look good." You should be comfortable with this approach and able to help others write in a style that is rigorous, calibrated, and not flashy.

  • Have experience creating content for mainstream audiences. Ideally, you have a background in journalism, communications, or a related field where you've had to make complex topics accessible to non-specialist readers. You don't need to be an expert in our focus areas, but familiarity with the key ideas informing our approach is helpful.

  • Are organized and self-directed. This role requires juggling multiple content types and deadlines, often with input from various stakeholders.

  • Bring a service mindset to cross-functional work. You're responsive, thoughtful about others' needs, and excited about helping colleagues share their ideas.

  • Think strategically about communications. You have ideas about how to make our work more accessible and impactful, and can help shape our broader content and communications strategy.

Above all, we are looking for someone motivated to contribute to our mission of helping others as much as we can with the resources available to us. We've found that people are most satisfied with communications roles when they’re genuinely bought into what we're trying to achieve. You don't need to agree with every aspect of Coefficient’s work, but you should be excited about using communications to increase our impact.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess many of the skills and experiences described above, but there is no such thing as a “perfect” candidate. If you are on the fence about applying because you are unsure whether you are qualified, we strongly encourage you to apply.

Role Details & Benefits

  • Compensation: The baseline compensation for this role is $216,759.09, which would be distributed as a base salary of $192,259.09 and an unconditional 401(k) grant of $24,500 for U.S. hires.

  • Time zones and location: You can work remotely. Given the collaborative nature of our team's work, we have a preference for candidates who can work from New York City (where three members of the team, including Naina, are based), followed by San Francisco and Washington D.C.

We are happy to consider sponsoring U.S. work authorization. However, we don’t control who is and isn’t eligible for a visa and can’t guarantee visa approval. We are open to hires outside the U.S., provided you can consistently work at least 5 hours overlapping with Eastern Time business hours per workday.

  • Benefits: Our benefits package includes:

    • Excellent health insurance (we cover 100% of premiums within the U.S. for you and any eligible dependents) and an employer-funded Health Reimbursement Arrangement for certain other personal health expenses.

    • Dental, vision, and life insurance for you and your family.

    • Four weeks of PTO recommended per year.

    • Four months of fully paid family leave.

    • A generous and flexible expense policy — we encourage staff to expense the ergonomic equipment, software, and other services that they need to stay healthy and productive. This policy also includes a productivity benefit, which provides a set amount for staff to expense items that enhance their productivity.

    • A continual learning policy that encourages staff to spend time on professional development with related expenses covered.

    • Support for remote work — we’ll cover a remote workspace outside your home if you need one, or connect you with a Coefficient Giving coworking hub in your city. We currently have offices in San Francisco and Washington D.C., and multiple staff working from several other cities in the U.S. and elsewhere.

    • We can’t always provide every benefit we offer U.S. staff to international hires, but we’re working on it (and will usually provide cash equivalents of any benefits we can’t offer in your country).

    • Start date: We’d like a candidate to start as soon as possible after receiving an offer. We expect to make offers before the end of February
