Technical Specialist (Web Developer/Designer)

Probably Good

📍 Remote (Global)
🕔 Full Time
⌛ 11/01/2025

This role will involve taking the lead on our technical projects—and potentially taking on design work if that’s in your skills and interests. It’s a unique opportunity to work across a wide range of platforms in an environment where you can rapidly execute on ideas, with minimum bureaucracy, while still having room for guidance and collaboration.

For this position, you will ideally become the owner of much of our technical development, including:

  • Website - Our WordPress site (using GeneratePress and GenerateBlocks) is our primary platform, and will take the majority of your focus.

  • Job board - Our job board is currently built in Webflow, and uses some additional tools for updating and syncing the database.

  • Analytics and ads - Handle systems like Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Google Ads.

  • Additional tools - We use additional platforms in our work, like Kinsta (for hosting), Airtable, and Guided Track.

  • Some coding - In the course of the work, you’ll definitely be using basic HTML and CSS. Additional languages could help but aren’t crucial (e.g., PHP, JavaScript). In practice, a lot of the work involves no-code tools, and even the coding that’s needed is often fairly simple, though you should still have a basic ability to code.

  • Potentially, also related design/UX work (optional) - This isn’t a requirement, but it’s a big plus if you can handle some types of work that are related to development. A key example of this is understanding graphic design considerations when building our WordPress website.

When it comes to technical skills, what matters most isn’t having all the answers upfront, but knowing how to find solutions and apply them effectively. You’ll have access to plenty of guidance, training, and mentorship to support you as you learn and grow in this role.

We’re also flexible with how we define and shape this position based on your strengths and interests. For example, if you have strong design expertise, you could focus more on front-end development and design, while the team handles things like back-end systems and analytics. But you’d still play a key role in implementing your designs and working on core development tasks on the website.

What could make someone a great fit for this role:

  • Technical aptitude - You have a familiarity with web platforms and a willingness to learn new tools and systems.

  • Problem-solving mindset - You approach challenges with a practical, solution-oriented mindset and take ownership of tasks from start to finish.

  • Thoughtfulness - You think about the bigger picture beyond the surface-level – like considering page load time and mobile responsiveness when designing for WordPress.

  • Prioritization skills - At any point in time, there will be dozens of things you could potentially do, and it’s important to be able to figure out which ones you should actually work on, and how much time you should spend on them.

  • Adaptability - You can work effectively across a variety of systems and tools.

  • Attention to detail - You thoroughly check your work for quality and accuracy.

  • Complementary skills, like design and UX (optional, but a strong plus) - You have additional skills that can help you in your development work, especially in the context of web design. If you’re a designer with strong technical skills and an interest in putting your designs into practice alongside additional technical work, we’d love to hear from you, even if you don’t consider yourself a full developer.

What we look for in all applicants

We’re a small, remote team with a startup mentality, so we’re looking for people who align with our values and approach:

  • Shared mission - You’re aligned with Probably Good’s mission to help more people build impactful careers, balancing considerations of scale with those of personal fit.

  • High level of ownership - You take responsibility for your work, can work independently, and see tasks through to completion.

  • Dependability - When you say you'll do something, we can count on it—if anything comes up, you’ll keep us in the loop and ask for support when needed.

  • Transparency - You’re open about your reasoning and decisions, helping the team stay in sync and moving forward.

  • Good communication & a collaborative spirit - You’re a strong collaborator who shares ideas and opinions with clarity and kindness. You can disagree constructively when needed and respond well to feedback.

Above all, we’re looking for people who can contribute consistently, both individually and collaboratively, while being open to feedback and growth. At our small organization, each team member plays a key role in shaping our work and making a real difference. We try to keep the focus on results, minimize unnecessary processes, and give you the space and support to get things done.

Practical Details

  • Titles – We’re flexible about titles and happy to discuss them with you at the offer stage, especially given the different directions that some of these roles can take. We’re also open to hiring people with different levels of experience, especially for the groups/advising lead and the developer roles.

  • Salary - We offer a competitive salary, which will depend on experience and location.

  • Location - We’re a fully remote team, based primarily in the UK and the US East Coast, so we have a preference for candidates located in or between those time zones (generally UTC-5 to UTC+0), but we're open to exceptional candidates based elsewhere. Our only requirements are that you’re legally allowed to work where you’re based (since we don’t currently sponsor work visas), and that you can attend any relevant meetings.

  • Start date - We prefer people who could start sooner rather than later, but we understand that you might have previous commitments, so we’re open to extending our timeline for the right candidates.

In addition, the nature of our mission requires us to consider multiple perspectives, which is only possible by making Probably Good an inclusive and welcoming place to work. We recognize that factors like gender, race, and socioeconomic status can influence a person’s willingness to apply for a role, even when they’re highly qualified. If you’re excited about our mission, but worry you might not be ‘good enough’ or that you're not a perfect fit, we still encourage you to apply and give us a chance to get to know you. And if you have any concerns or need adjustments for accessibility, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at team@probablygood.org.
