You will play a crucial role in driving our mission forward by expanding our grantmaking research capacity. You will oversee a portfolio of research projects for our client philanthropy advisory and grantmaking research for our pooled funds. Your contributions will support our ability to serve a greater number of clients, and donations through our pooled fund, increasing the impact we can achieve.
Key Responsibilities:
Grantmaking Research (~75% of role): Lead grantmaking research workflows for client advisory and foundation grantmaking, including designing and executing iterative depth research processes, impact assessments, expert interviews, and cost-effective analysis. Produce grant recommendations.
Internal Monitoring & Evaluation: Conduct impact assessments of Ark Philanthropy to help us understand our impact and influence our strategic priorities.
Research Communications: Create clear written materials to communicate research findings to clients and stakeholders.
Additional Potential Responsibilities:
Partner Support: Provide M&E and/or research support to grantee partners we grant to or advisory and grantmaking partners we collaborate with.
Generalist Tasks: Assist with data management, help out on initiatives, and take on additional operational tasks as needed to support our small team.
Client-Facing Support: Meet with clients and answer research questions. Bring a professional, respectful, and helpful attitude to client interactions. (Not a required aspect of this position)
Qualifications:
Capable researcher, ideally with experience conducting literature reviews and secondary research, intervention prioritization, program monitoring and evaluation, nonprofit evaluation, impact assessment, cost-effective analysis, crucial considerations (critical uncertainties) analysis, expert interviews, and weighted factor models.
Brings an analytical, skeptical, yet open-mind to research, actively working against confirmation bias and other biases.
Competent communicator capable of sharing research findings through clear and understandable writing.
Demonstrated experience with Google Sheets and/or Excel and comfortable with quantitative modelling. Experience with Guesstimate is a plus!
Curious and inquisitive generalist, enthusiastic to explore a range of causes from gender equity (gender based violence, reproductive health, etc.), animal welfare, public health, and more.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and comfortable working on a team.
Flexibility and adaptability to adjust workflows in line with changing priorities and completing non-research tasks if required by the organization’s priorities.
